The synthetic route of (2R, 3S)-2-amino-3-hydroxysuccinic acid hydrochloride was introduced. It was synthesized via ring forming, ring opening, reduction and hydrolysis reaction, which the D-diethyl tartrate was the starting compound. The total yield of the four steps is 42.04%.
