Highly oriented carbon nanotube arrays have good electrochemical properties such as large capacity, excellent rate performance and long cycle life due to their superior conductivity, high specific surface area and well-developed porous structure. Carbon nanotube arrays show great potential in electrochemical applications. The preparation of carbon nanotube arrays is introduced. Recent advances in the electrochemical applications of carbon nanotube arrays are reviewed in the fields of electrochemical storage, electrochemical catalysis and electrochemical sensors. The problems of carbon nanotube arrays in electrochemical applications are analyzed, and the future research direction of carbon nanotube arrays is proposed.
