Polyethoxy esterquat (3EQDMS－nEO) was prepared via ethoxylation of an tri-ester formed by reaction of stearic acid and triethanolamine and quaternization of the ethoxylated tri-ester．Structure of the product was characterized by FTIR and 1HNMR．The softening，rewettability，detergency and impact on fabric whiteness of the product were studied and compared with that of EQDMS．Results showed that the 3EQDMS-6EO is an excellent softener. The softening property of the product is close to that of EQDMS．Its rewettability is better than that of EQDMS，and impact of the product on the fabric whiteness is not big．3EQDMS-6EO has the certain detergency while EQDMS dose not.
