    Abstract:

2,4-bis(n-octylthiomethyl)-6-methylphenol was synthesized from o-cresol, o-octanethiol and paraformaldehyde using piperidine as catalyst and N,N-dimethylformamide as solvent under nitrogen protection. The effect of various reaction parameters, including material ratio, the amount of catalyst, reaction temperature and time, was investigated in detail. When the molar ratio n(o-cresol): n(o-octanethiol): n(paraformaldehyde) = 1:2:4, the amount of piperidine was 9.8% of o-cresol, at 110℃ for 8 hours ,the target compound 2,4-bis(n-octylthiomethyl)-6-methylphenol had a higher yield of 94.5%. The product was verified by means of IR and 1HNMR.
